By now you have seen the fashion girls occasionally swap minimalism for maximalism; wearing stacked necklaces. Looks so chic, put together, fun and effortless; doesn't it?
Layering necklaces adds a finishing touch that allows you to express your individual style; gold + silver, dainty + thick, beads + metals, different lengths; you name it!
This 3 step beginner guide to layering necklaces is bound to get you to PRO level before you know it.
Start with the shortest necklace first
A collar length necklace is the best place to start, usually 15” or 16” is a flattering length sitting at the base of your neck and the perfect place to begin your layering.
Chain 2, the main event
Here is where you can mix it up to personalise your look, mix up the metals or keep it simple with another chain in matching gold or silver. Play around with the necklace extensions on your chains.
Chain 3: Add a longer chain here. Choose from midi length, a lariat or a longer chain necklace to extend the look.
You can keep going and adding more, to create the look you’re going for whether its fine or chunky, lots of lengths or super simple! Remember, the key word is cohesive. Here are some pieces we know would make lovely stacking pieces.
Necklace Lengths to Consider
Necklaces come in a handful of standard lengths, so look for these measurements when shopping. The most common necklace lengths are:
- 14" — Doesn't fit as snugly as a choker but sits high on the neck
- 16" — Settles loosely along the neckline.
- 18" — Sits halfway between the collarbone and chest.
- 20" — Hangs slightly lower but doesn't quite reach the chest.
- 24" — Sits right at the upper chest.
- 30" — Hangs much lower and rests just under the chest.
- 33" — One of the longest necklace lengths; it settles just above the navel.
